I believe creativity is a gift from God, I really do. I also believe that we have even greater potential with our creative gifts when we let our creator into our space and our hearts. I think using the gifts God gave us is a form of worship and praise. I wrote this article for people like me who want to involve God in their work, but perhaps aren't sure how.
Worship Music
This is a great one to start with. I very often listen to worship music while I am drawing and painting (it is also great to worship before beginning to get into a prayerful mindset and praise God for the gifts He has given you!). This has been very helpful for me especially when I don't know where to start or feel stuck.
Prayer Beforehand
Just like how I pray before going to my 9-5 job, I often pray before I start my time at my easel. If you aren't sure what to pray, I have a few ideas and have even written down an example of what I might pray beforehand.
Thank God for the gifts He has blessed you with.
Ask God for inspiration.
Ask God to guide your hands and help you grow in your skills.
Ask God how you can use the talent He gave you to glorify Him.
Lord God, I invite you to come into this space with me today. I thank you for this time where I can enjoy the gifts you have given me. I pray that you would guide my hands as I paint and that what I create would be honoring and pleasing to you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen
Bible audio
Listening to the Word while doing anything is great to be able to do. (I listen while I paint, do chores, and even while I sleep). I use the YouVersion app ( link below). Most versions of the Bible on this app have an option to listen to it as an audio book. I personally listen to NLT or KJV.
( I don't think listening is a substitution for reading and studying the Bible, but often listening to the Word makes me more curious and eager to study it!)
I hope you found these tips helpful and encouraging. Let me know if you think of any other ways to invite God into your work time! I'd also love to hear your experiences with art as a form of worship. If you have a story to share feel free to send me an email or message on social media.
Blessings,
