Watercolor Supply Picks- April 2023

* If you make a purchase through one of these links I may earn a small commission. This helps me to be able to keep doing what I love.

It's been very rainy in Wisconsin these past couple weeks, which is the perfect weather to hide away in my studio making moody watercolor paintings. This has given me lots of time to reflect on the wonderful painting supplies I'm blessed to be able to create with, so I thought I'd make a little list of my new favorite discoveries.

Paints

My favorite palette right now that I've been using for almost ever painting is the Sakura Koi Field Watercolor set. It has 30 highly pigmented watercolor paints. a mixing tray, a sponge, and a water brush. This is the perfect little set to take with me on trips for painting on the go. This palette has a very nice range of color and I haven't felt yet like any colors are missing from it. It's a very affordable option for beginners! Click the link below to view it.

Brushes

This month I've mostly been using my Silver Silk #10 ultra round brush. It's a really nice all purpose brush. It has held it's point very well throughout my use of it, but is large enough that when you use the belly of the brush you can still cover a fairly large area with it. It's a mid price range brush, and its versatility makes it a staple in my collection. Brush is linked below!

Paper

This month I had the privilege of starting a commissioned series of small watercolor landscapes for a nursery. I decided to go with Strathmore's 140lb cold press watercolor paper. I hadn't used this paper before, and was pleasantly surprised by it. The texture it has gave my paintings a little bit more visual interest, without making the paper difficult to work with. Sometimes too much texture makes it hard for me to get good coverage with the paint. You can view/purchase this paper by clicking the link below.

I didn't branch out a ton with new supplies this month, but all of these were great to try out! Next month I will be trying out some new masking fluid and ruling pens (I've never tried these before!). If you'd like to see more from me, I'd love for you to follow along on my art journey. Blessings,
